Andrea D. Jackson, Ed.D. Presents at USF Institute on Black Life Annual Conference: Black Joy

As a panelist at the 2025 Institute on Black Life Conference, Dr. Jackson explored the interplay of the conference theme, Black Joy, and the nuances of Black joy related to navigating the teaching profession as a Black queer teacher.

Audience members were encouraged to think critically about how the themes discussed can be used to improve the lived experiences of Black queer and Black heterosexual teachers in public K-12 schools.

About USF Institute on Black Life Annual Conference: Black Joy

The USF Institute on Black Life (IBL) explored Black joy as a powerful lens to understand the breadth of Black life, identity, and resilience, examining both individual and communal experiences of joy.

Students, scholars, artists, activists, and practitioners came together to celebrate the ways Black individuals and communities cultivate joy in the face of personal and systemic challenges, and held discussions on how joy functions as an act of resistance, a cultural practice, and a source of healing.

Expressions of Black joy sustain and nourish communities, breathing life into Black futures and inspiring strength, creativity, and connection.
